Science + Communication + Design

Science, Communication, Design: these are the broad headings under which my many interests lie. I hold a B.A. in Environmental Studies & Conservation Biology from Middlebury College and a M.S. in Geographic Information Science from the University of Minnesota. I have worked in the fields of bird conservation, communications, user experience design, and geographic information science. I currently work as a cartographer for the National Park Service in Denver.

I am interested in work that engages people with information about the world around them. I support breaking down the barriers of communication between scientists and the public by engaging people in the process of science. I believe that it's worth the extra effort to translate research and discovery into a format that makes it meaningful, relatable, and beautiful. I seek a career that lets me do this by any means necessary, but especially with maps.

I'm always interested to new projects or collaborations. If you're interested in working together, let's talk. Email me at or find me on twitter @mtaylorlong.
